Denzel deserved his Oscar for training day. He took a role that wasn't good on paper and spun it into gold. Its not his best performance (Malcolm X is) but its one worthy of an Oscar. It helps that they screwed him over twice for Malcolm X and The Hurricane.

I think Denzel deserved his oscar for Training Day even though its not his best performance (Malcolm X is). He took a character that was poorly written in the script and turned it into an Oscar caliber performance. That takes alot of talent. To show you how mediocre the movie on paper was, Bruce Willis, Tom Sizemore, and Gary Sinise turned the role. Denzel took the role and spun it into gold.

maybe he deserved because...did you not see his perfomance in training day. Saying the oscars only gave it to him because of politics is an issult to the man's talent

well neither of his other roles were really that likable or positive in terms of promoting a progressive and representative image. It's more an unfortunate reflection on the roles he has had the chance to play than any political bias of the academy.

Julia Roberts be grabbing onto Denzel..I think she wants to kiss him. She didn't get a chance to in the Pelican Brief..lol

I am also a great fan of Denzel. However, I totally agree with you when it comes to this award presentation. Crowe was magnificent and a did a far better job in "The Beautiful Mind". But I guess the year that DW won the award, the Academy Organizers dedicated their entire presentation ceremony to African American Actors. I can remember, Halle Berry winning her "Best Actress Award" and also Sydney Portier got an Honorary Award.
