Chinese Gold Farmers Preview Three

This is the story of Lao Liu, one of my favorite interviewees. Here he talks about the pleasure and pain of being a gold farmer, also his interaction with regular gamers. I'm experimenting distributive filmmaking. If you would like to participate in this documentary, please just use an camcorder and record an interview with yourself or your friends, then contribute the tapes to me. If this is what communism lead to...I don't pity the Soviet Union's teachings any longer. As a gamer, I see people like these everyday. And I must say, I do feel sorry for them. They cannot enjoy the game...it becomes a bland job they must do. And in their desperation, their attempts at honest living bring dark times on honest gamers who refuse to buy gold.If anything was to blame, it isn't blizzard, it isn't the gamers, it isn't the farmers. But the conditions those poor souls must endure.

Freedom is an illusion...they choose to play games professionally...they could've got a job else where

Gold farming is illegal, floods the in-game economy, and takes mobs away from people who simply wish to enjoy a game. Therefore, they take millions of hours of entertainment away from people worldwide every month. Is that not an example of something morally wrong, as defined by social norms? I will say it again, the end does not justify the means, and if you harm people to get money, regardless of your reasons, it is reprehensible behaviour.

Not... really.

If I was hungry, and murdered you for your money so I can get food, am I in the right? Sure its an extreme example, but the point still stands. The end doesn't justify the means.
